A good point that can't be dismissed: Ukrainian sympathy towards the U.S. could easily change into feeling betrayed. Especially now that the PR stakes are that high: Ukrainians are basically fighting the West's war against a totalitarian agressor. Perhaps even the narrative that the West has lured Ukrainians into an uncompromising fight against Putin by giving false hopes.
