As a curious foreigner looking in, what strikes me is that America is in constant need of strong symbols of national pride. Then again, not that strange if you want to keep some sense of unity in a big country with people from such diverse backgrounds. Now though, it looks like that what sets groups of Americans apart is way stronger than what binds them. IMO, it is actually worse than what you portray. Question is if it will get even worse. With Trump 2024 it will most definitely.
