As a people mover, yes. As a transport mode for family trips and holidays, ditto. As a daily car for commuting purposes and running all sorts of errands, NO. Average car occupancy is between 1.1 and 1.6 person (driver included). So we can all do with a considerably smaller footprint vehicle, and 'car-share' a big one if you need to carry a lot of people and stuff. That we all still use cars that weigh 15 to 30 times more than the usually single occupant (driver), is proof that (fossil) energy is still way too cheap.
