Beware that public transport is most certainly not always the greenest choice. That’s because you can’t differentiate in transport modes. Their sheer weight and mass make buses and trams very inefficient, in terms of space usage and energy efficiency, when just a few passengers are carried. A mix of public transport and ride-hailing might be a good bet. Service would be better too, think door-to-door (whereas public transport is limited to regular stops along the route) and 24/7. Some American cities already experiment with the combination. The biggest gain is in reducing vehicle footprint itself though. You get to cover both personal cars as well as (autonomous) ride-hailing. May be a good thing too for the UK that sees more and more car makers abandon the country because of Brexit. Below: we no longer use bulky PCs and brick-like phones… That should make people interested in greening mobility think.
