Excellent overview article. Dave Zipper could not have done better. I think that Biden and energy secretary Granholm aren't really aware that vehicle obesity hampers the Energy Transition (bigger batteries needed) AND... makes it harder for U.S. automakers to compete with foreign makes when it comes to selling affordable EVs. After all, no matter the vehicle size, the average car occupancy is around 1.2 person, it even tends to go down. Why use that much rolling real estate to carry maybe 100 kg of human being? Anyway, we already knew this. Many experts made the same observations. Since people will always value having their own mode of transport, we NOW need to establish what a post-Tesla EV that’s considerably lighter, leaner, greener, safer and more affordable without being dependent on billions in subsidies (EV credits) may be and look like.
