Ha, I coined that phrase when I gave a presentation titled “Seamless 2D and 3D Transit” for the 5th Transformative Flight Conference organized by the American Helicopter Society, Jan. last year. It isn’t that simple as we are told to believe. Basic laws of physics work against speedy eVTOL deployment: mass, low energy density (when battery-propelled), therefore interesting enough range, are issues that need to be tackled. Then comes the problem of getting all the necessary permits, from airworthiness to permission to exceed noise levels, sort out low level air traffic control. Then there is the point which is completely ignored: logistics and the all real estate required for having so-called vertiports. A taxi that picks you up, drops you off at the ‘vertiport’ for you to fly off, then the same but in reverse order happens at the vertiport of arrival? That’s not very smart, now is it?
