I hope that Zelensky realizes that the war could drag for years to come, and that the Americans realize that they are in the position to embolden Zelensky's claim to the Donbas region and the Crimea... or have him compromise. And that the global economy and the health of millions of already vulnerable people are at stake here, the Ukraine being the 'bread basket' of the world. There is the considerable risk that all involved think they will profit from further escalation. Putin, because he doesn't want to lose face, Zelensky as he already built plenty of momentum and goodwill with the U.S. and the EU, and the Americans who may set their mind on regime change in the Kremlin.
