In the West, not nearly enough attention is given to the Russian sacrifices to defeat Nazi Germany. The many German soldiers deployed on the Eastern front, including all military equipment, meant that they could not be used to fight the Allies on the Western front. Of course Eastern Europe had to pay a hefty price too when Stalin's troops kept it occupied after the war.
