I guess that ‘exclusivity’ (rather than working towards inclusivity) is deeply rooted in the WASPY Puritan soul because of the Pilgrim Fathers who came to America aboard the Mayflower. I would not be surprised that religious Americans think that non-Americans are the first category to leave behind, when that big space vessel ascends for the Heavens.
