Not unable to understand... automakers just make more money from selling bigger cars. Only governments can do something about this. In the U.S. this would be to end taxing light trucks and SUVs favorably. Below, caught in one depiction: the bigger the box you’re driving, the more you become boxed in on the road (gridlock), the more energy it requires (grid demand), the less feel for what happens around you (road safety).
Big EVs are not exactly smart, nor green. Especially since car occupancy averages 1.2 people. More Public Transport and cycling? Sure. But people will always want to use a car. Plenty of people who would appreciate an alternative. Challenge is to reduce our vehicle footprint without offering a ‘small car’. A next-generation EV will be a smart device on wheels, that’s for sure too. 1 in 900 suffices to have a viable production. Potentially a huge market. IMO, a vehicle can be a ‘Best of Both’ — NCAP safety and car-like comfort for three people, and the agility and economy of a trike.
