'Nuclear' is a mixed blessing for humanity. No doubt it prevented countries to engage in wars they would have without the threat of (mutual) annihilation. It still has that potential. But there is this human tendency to rather escalate a conflict, risk it all and wreck the place (become Oppenheimer's "The Destroyer of Worlds") than to admit defeat in a political conflict. That's the 'mixed aspect'.
