Something’s gotta give. There’s a price race to the bottom between airlines, for instance. People should not expect that this can continue without a price to pay. The problem is that when governments try to fix this (tax aviation fuel for instance), then a powerful lobby of airports, aircraft builders, travel agencies, tourist destinations, logistics companies, etc. starts complaining that jobs are on the line. Climate change will have to spin out of control before it dawns on people. It’s human nature only to accept drastic measures when something has gone dramatically wrong, like the founding of the UN after WW2. People have a limited sense of history too. It’s why mistakes are made time after time.
