The F35 was already known for not having up to par dogfighting capabilities. The half a century old F16 could beat the F35 when it comes to that. The F35 will probably never see an enemy fighter in close proximity, as it will have already terminated that one long before the enemy fighter was even supposed to engage in combat. The F35 is the last generation fighter jet with a human pilot on board. AI will take over in 10 years or so.
