There is at least a grey zone between Theranos-type of companies and the collective hype that self-driving is just around the corner. And the NHTSA knows it! Billions have been invested. Time that investors start doing their homework. The irony is that deriving data from a drop of blood may well be more realistic than expecting cars to drive itself. Pitches and pilots have been going on for a number of years; making promises and doing simulated drives sound at least akin to ‘fake it till you make it’. So far, full self-driving seems out of reach, if ever feasible. I wish that investors (who lost an estimated $100 billion!) would have watched Seinfeld more consciously. Remember George Costanza‘s “It’s not a lie if you believe it”?
